The Ultimate Travel Bag Essentials
There are few things more
annoying than forgetting to pack certain travel essentials such as makeup
remover and toothpaste. Of course, it's easy to forget these things when you
don't keep a travel bag prepared and ready to go. Save yourself both time
and stress by keeping a travel bag on hand prepared with all of the items you'd
need on a trip or overnight stay. Have extras of all items in your bag so that
you can grab it and go--not grab it and raid your bathroom for everything you
need to stuff in it. It's a common sense habit, but one that too many people
don't take the time to establish. Here are the most common essentials:
Toothbrush. Keep one for
your travel bag at all times. Don't rely on remembering to switch your
regular toothbrush to your bag. Keep a designated toothbrush (in a clean
toothbrush holder) in your bag always.
Toothpaste. Keep a
small travel-size tube on you at all times. After all, getting to your
destination after a long day of traveling only to find out that you're stuck
with a less than fresh mouth is, well, less than fun.
Floss. Is anything
more annoying than an errant seed when you don't have floss to get it out?
Antiperspirant/deodorant.
Again, a travel size is all you need to keep yourself as fresh as a daisy.
Travel shampoo and
conditioner. Never rely on the hotel's supply. Also, your bag
should be ready to spend the night in a friend's guest room, and they may not
keep an extra set in the spare bathroom. You can either use the bottles
from a previous hotel stay or buy your own bottles and fill them with your
favorite hair products.
Disposable razor.
No matter how you try to rationalize it, hairy armpits aren't sexy. Keep a
disposable razor in your bag so you don't have to worry about transferring--and
possibly forgetting--your electric model.
Lotion. Again, dry skin
is common, especially after a flight or when changing climates. Keep a travel
size in your bag and banish ashy skin.
Aspirin. Put a few
pills in a tiny pill dispenser and you're good to go. Just be sure to keep
it refilled!
Comb and brush.
Buy separate ones exclusively for travel. It's a bit of an investment, but
they should last for years.
Tampons and pads. Even
if you know you won't be needing them, you'll never have to consult a calendar
before packing your stuff. Besides, you never know when someone else will
need them!
Bobby pins/ponytail holders.
These small wonders take almost no space and can save you from many a bad hair
day. Take more than one; take 10 and don't worry about it.
Nail clippers and a file.
Having a jagged edge from a broken nail is more than annoying--you can
end up scratching yourself silly if you don't have a file on hand.
Contact lens supplies.
You certainly can't live without these!
Eye makeup remover.
Whether you use cotton swabs and a bottle or those handy Q-tips filled with
remover, this item is essential to keep yourself looking fresh throughout your
trip.
Most people will have a few
other items that are indispensable, so be sure to pack travel sizes of those as
well. It's amazing how much having a dedicated travel bag can speed your
packing time. Plus, it's much easier to be ready for spontaneous nights
out, romantic weekend trips, and unplanned visits to family and/or friends. No
matter what comes up, you'll know it's in the bag.
