Four Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day
Those of Irish heritage and those of
beer bellies have good reason to celebrate this year: St. Patrick’s
Day is on a Friday! Take comfort in knowing that your green beer
binge will have no adverse affect on your weekday work performance.
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day (and, well, Fridays in general), here a
few ideas to celebrate:
1. The Shamrock Shake: Falling
somewhere between the Loch Ness Monster and $1 Whoppers, McDonald’s
Shamrock Shake, while not in mass production for years, have become
the stuff of legends and midnight junk food quests. The green treat
is reportedly still available in various Mickey Dees’ across the
nation–and even into Canada. These green shakes are refreshingly
minty and cool, while offering little to no nutritional value. Cheers
to the Shamrock Shake!
2. Hit a pub. Today of all days is
not the time to hit the latest trendy bar or martini lounge. Today is
the day to hit a slightly grimy pub, where the air is stale, as are
the pretzels. Have a green beer, play some early British punk on the
jukebox, throw a few darts, and spend the rest of the night wondering
what all that dye does to your digestive system. (Trust us, you’ll
know for sure tomorrow.)
3. Have a classic Irish dinner to
honor St. Paddy. Break out the corned beef and cabbage! Actually, on
second thought… forget the corned beef and cabbage. Stick to Shamrock
Shakes and beer.
4. Above all, be safe. Take a cab
out or have a designated driver (who has agreed beforehand)
to shuttle you around to the festivities. Happy St. Patrick’s Day,
indeed!
