Create Sexy Pin
Curls in Seven Easy Steps
Pin curls are perfect for creating a
romantic, retro look that's surprisingly low-maintenance. Typically, you
create pin curls at night after washing and drying your hair for a
fabulous look the next morning. If you're ready to learn how to create pin
curls, simply grab a load of bobby pins and get ready!
1. Make sure your hair is totally or nearly dry. If you've got thick hair,
completely dry is better. Also, if you're prone to frizz, applying a
smoothing solution or compound can ensure that you look sleek instead of
scary in the morning.
2. Take a small section of hair (about one inch, depending again on the
thickness of your hair), hold it at the end of the strands, and twist it
to the roots. (This makes pinning it easier and adds more curl.)
3. Curl the twisted section around the two fingers holding the strands,
and curl it all the way to the roots. In other words, move your hand,
rather than the hair.
4. Pin the section to your scalp. One to two bobby pins should secure the
pin curl. If not, the section of hair is too large; you might want to try
smaller sections. The pinning technique isn't vital--just make sure the
curled section is secured as closely to the scalp as possible without
causing breakage. (Hint: if it hurts, you've pulled too tightly.)
5. Repeat the pin curl process with all your hair. If you can get a friend
to help curl the back, the process will be much faster and easier.
6. Wrap a scarf around your pin curls to keep them from coming loose at
night. (It also makes sleeping in pin curls more comfortable!)
7. In the morning, remove each pin and unwind each curled section. Finger
comb through your curls gently and shake them out. Add some light spray,
and your freshly styled pin curls are good to go!
