How to Wear Pin
Curls: Three Sultry New Styles
Pin curls evoke romance and an innocent
yet sultry quality. The look itself is very versatile, and works with
everything from a print sundress to a t-shirt and jeans to a sleek blouse
and slacks. Pin curls can gently frame the face, softening sharp lines and
adding interest along with a sense of flair. If traditional pin curls
aren't your style, though, you may want to try these three variations:
1. The soft ponytail: Without slicking down your hair or smoothing it,
simply grab your hair gently, about an inch from the nape of your neck.
Wrap a ponytail holder around your hair, but not too tightly--the pin
curls should help secure the pony even if the holder itself is a bit
loose. For an extra touch of girly style, cover the ponytail holder by
tying a length of ribbon or lace around it--about 10 inches should do.
2. The sexy chignon: Again, without smoothing your hair, gather it at the
back of your head. Twist the bundle of hair and form a loose bun with it.
Clamp with a claw. This look allows you to keep your hair back and off
your face, but is much less harsh than a regular ponytail or bun. Tip: For
a look with some added flair, make sure the loose ends are pointing
upwards when you clip on the claw. This spiky look is funky and young!
3. The funky fro: Brush out your pin curls gently. Instead of trying to
remove the curl entirely, you're simply trying to add volume by separating
the curled strands for a look that's bohemian and ethereal. As the twisted
strands separate, you'll find that even flat hair can take on a voluminous
look. For a toned-down version of this daring look, add a thin headband to
keep the now-wild curls away from your face.
