How to Pluck Your
Eyebrows for a Beautiful Shape
Eyebrows frame your face and help
define how others see you, so it's important for you to know how to pluck
eyebrows the right way. Eyebrow trends have gone in and out, and finally,
they've returned to the status quo. While dramatically thicker or thinner
eyebrows may suit your face, most women can do with some simple shaping and
maintenance.
How to Pluck Your Eyebrows:
- Soothe the area with numbing oral gel or ice
if you're sensitive.
- The outside ending point should line up with
the outside of your eye and your nostril. (Hold up a brow pencil to see this
imaginary diagonal line.)
- The inside starting point (the end closest to
the middle of your face) can be found by holding a pencil parallel to your
nose; where the pencil meets your brow, your brow should begin here.
- The peak of your arch should line up with the
outer edge of your iris (the colored part of your eye).
- Pluck in the direction of hair growth. In
general, this will be toward the outside of the eye.
- The most important "how to pluck eyebrows"
tip is this: don't overpluck! Take a step back and look at yourself after
every few hairs. If you're unsure, do your plucking over a few days to ensure
that you don't end up with brows that are too narrow or sparse.
- Finally, if your brows end up overplucked,
use an eyebrow pencil in the same shade as your natural brows to fill the area
in. Don't color in, though--use short, thin hair-like strokes to create
real-looking brows.
Eyebrow Cautions:
- Eyebrow hairs don't always grow back, so
pluck with caution.
- Don't pluck above the brow; only under.
Plucking hairs on the top of the eyebrow can change the natural, flattering
shape of the brow.
Top Plucking Tips:
- Pluck after a shower. The steam will
open the pores and help the hairs come out more easily.
- Have a professional shape your brows,
especially if you've never or rarely touched them before. Then, your job
is simply to maintain the shape by plucking stray hairs as they grow in. While
the intial session may be an investment, you can be assured of brows that
flatter your face.
- Excellent light and a magnifying mirror can
make all the difference; use them for best results.
