Designer Profile:
Zac Posen
Zac Posen is young, fresh, and favored among
Hollywood elite. As if this wasn't enough to make him the designer of the
moment, his clothes are also female-friendly and fun--all with a classic sense
of style. From beautiful dresses to stylish separates, Posen's collections
are created to make women feel fabulous. Defining details include crisp seams,
flowing lines and bias cut items, as well as a playful but carefully studied use
of color. His clothes cling, slide, float, but always maintain a slight aura of
understatement. You may look like a million in his clothes, but you'll never
come off like you're trying to look that way. The genius of Posen
is that his clothes make the women who wear them seem organically sexy and
attractive. In other words, these clothes don't wear you.
Posen got his start at a young age and learned
his craft at the Parsons School of Design, based in New York. (American design
star Marc Jacobs also studied here.) However, he eventually left the school to
focus on a more intuitive method of design. After working with Nicole Miller and
Tocca, Posen made a splash in 2001 (at the tender age of 21) at the Fresh Faces
in Fashion show, held by Gen Art. His first traditional runway show was in 2004,
but by then, his name was already a huge buzzword in the industry, and his
creations had already been seen on some of the hottest leading ladies.
Precocious Zac Posen is also a savvy
businessman, teaming with some of the top names in urban and youth fashion, such
as Sean Combs and Seven for All Mankind. And get this--Manolo Blahnik created
the shoes for one of Posen's shows in 2005. How's that for industry
respect? Plus, he's made a point to team up with some of Hollywood's hottest
fashionistas, such as Natalie Portman, Claire Danes, Halle Berry, and Julianne
Moore. These women, not surprisingly, represent Posen's inspiration and target
audience: intelligent, dynamic women. Targeting intelligent, sexy women?
No wonder we're such fans!
