Boyfriend
Recycling--A Hot New Dating Trend
There's
a new romance trend that's subtly and quietly inspiring a number of happy
pairings. Ready for this one? Boyfriend recycling. So, what is boyfriend
recycling? This newly coined term in the dating dictionary refers to times when
you rekindle a partnership with an ex--usually one that's been out of your life
for quite some time. If you're ready to try out this trend, there are some
guidelines that can help you navigate these often murky dating waters:
1. Remember why you broke up.
If it was because you didn't share any interests,
think twice before recycling. If it was because he was abusive or aggressive,
don't even think about it. However, if you broke up due to distance, different
priorities (ie, you wanted to focus on work), or simply because you were young,
the lucky ex may be an ideal recycling candidate.
2. Think way back.
Many boyfriend recycling success stories are stemming from
childhood romances. It can be exciting to find the boy who was your first crush
all grown up, with a great career--and a distinct lack of a backwards baseball
cap. As a bonus, you'll share a lot of history, leading to an intimate
connection without all of the "let me tell you about myself" background talk.
3. Try being friends first.
If you do decide to track down and contact an
ex-boyfriend for possible recycling, don't try to make the chemistry happen. You
may meet and discover that you were never meant for each other; in this case,
there's nothing wrong with staying "just friends." However, if you get together
for a casual coffee and the sparks fly, feel free to pursue the renewed
connection.
4. Check out social networking sites first.
If you want to play it cautiously,
check out social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. You may find
that your former honey is now married or that you're no longer attracted to him.
Or, you may even discover that he's still not dating material. (If you see a lot
of candid shots featuring random girls in bars, this may be a tip-off that now's
not the time for a recycling rendevous.)
