Is Bora Bora Your
Next Vacation Destination?
Bora Bora, a Polynesian paradise, is one of the
most incredible vacation destinations in the world. Located in the center
of the Pacific Ocean over 2,500 miles south of Hawaii, this island is a true
getaway. Considered to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the island of
Bora Bora offers incredible scenery, miles of white sand beaches, a slower way
of life, and an atmosphere infused with an almost tangible sense of luxury and
romance.
Two jagged, black peaks rise from the center of
the island, providing a dramatic background to an island that's otherwise serene
and soothing. These volcanic peaks descend into exotic tropical forests,
which then give way to the famed beaches of Bora Bora. The entire island
is ringed by coral, but the main gem is the island's lagoon. Nearly
mythical in status, Bora Bora's lagoon is not just gorgeous--it's ideal for
snorkeling, wind surfing, parasailing, and more.
To get to the island, you must first land in
Tahiti's capital city of Papeete. From Papeete, your options expand: take
a chartered flight, book a mini-cruise, or even enjoy a helicopter ride (the
views are excellent, so this often is highly recommended!). Your options
in Bora Bora accommodations are also
myriad. From bungalows that put you directly on the lagoon to world-class
resort lodging, you have some freedom to customize your stay.
Summer in Bora Bora lasts from April to
November, and the climate is hot, but a bit more humid than most people would
prefer. From June through August, the temperatures a bit lower, and many
experienced travelers find this to be the best time to visit the island.
Expect a long flight to get to Tahiti--a little over eight hours is the norm,
and there's usually turbulence over the equator. However, you can also
expect a wonderful time in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.
A Bora Bora vacation is a true indulgence, but one that's nearly always
recommend by those who've made the trip.
