Signs He's the One
While love has never been an
exact science, there are certain things we can count on. The way a man treats
you in the first months--and even weeks--of dating can reveal whether he'll be a
supportive partner, the one you've been searching for. Look for the following
signs to see if you're on the path to love.
1. He follows through. Although
it may sound basic, if he is interested in you and respects you as an
individual, he'll always follow through. Whether it be plans you made to meet
for dinner or his promise of a future backrub, a man is as good as his word--and
if he's the one, his word should be solid as a rock. And if you're looking
for someone to share your life with, he should follow through with his
commitments to friends and family, too. While it may be charming that he's
willing to blow off his friends for you, in the long run, this simply adds up to
a lack of integrity, one that will very likely be transferred to you eventually.
Conversely, if follows through with others in his life, you know that you'll be
able to count on him.
2. There's chemistry. While
chemistry can be misleading and all too often fades, it should be there from the
start. Even if you're friends falling in love after years, there needs to be
physical chemistry for a fulfilling relationship to bloom. After all,
without that natural attraction, he's not the one, he's the friend. There's a
big difference.
3. You complement each other. When
he's the right man, your lifestyles, beliefs, and attitudes need to work
together. This doesn't mean that you have to agree on everything; it just means
that you can work together. If the two of you are looking for something similar
out of life, you'll have a much greater chance of reaching your goals together.
In short, when you feel like you've found a partner who brings out the best in
you and makes you excited about achieving your dreams together, that may be a
good sign that he's the one.
4. He's a good listener.
This means that he listens to the big stuff, he listens to the small stuff, and
he can recognize when you're communicating something important. When he's
the one, you'll most likely feel genuinely "heard." Whether it's sympathizing
about your stress level at work, detecting a concerned tone in your voice, or
catching that inside joke you two share, never underestimate how important it is
that your partner truly listens to you. Be careful, though, not to expect
your man to be psychic. If you didn't say it explicitly, you didn't say
it. And above all, remember that this principle works in reverse: if you expect
to be the woman of his dreams, you need to keep your ears perked as well.
Is this a comprehensive list of signs that
he's the one? By no means; there is no all-encompassing list or guideline that
can be created. Each woman is different and brings unique values and priorities
to her search for the one. However, if your man meets these four basic
requirements, hand on to him--you've found a keeper!
