Five Stops in Las Vegas You've Got to Make
Making a trip to Las Vegas soon?
In Sin City, there's so much to do that it can be a bit
overwhelming. Between the major casinos on the Strip, the new construction
off the Strip, and the sheer variety of casinos and attractions, there's always
something new to see! Here, we sort the wheat from the chaff, and handpick five
visitor favorites for you to suit a wide range of tastes.
1. The Wynn Las Vegas
In this most opulent of hotels, Steve Wynn
(creator of Caesar's Palace and Treasure Island) has taken Vegas grandiosity a
step further, and turned it into something truly elegant. While most visitors
probably won't be able to afford to stay more than a couple of nights in one of
the top-of-the-line suites (starting at $400), rooms are surprisingly affordable
at well under $200 per night. For those who don't plan on staying, the
Wynn Las Vegas is still worth a walk-through.
You can visit the art gallery for a fee,
though $15 is somewhat of a paltry price to pay to view works such as Picasso's
classic Le Reve (which the hotel's main show is named for).
Browse the Wynn mall to see the latest offerings from Manolo Blahnik, Jean Paul
Gaultier, Louis Vuitton, and even Ferrari Maserati. For one of Vegas's cheapest
thrills, simply walk through this nearly $3 billion resort, soak up the gorgeous
decor and view the Lake of Dreams--at night there's a light show that is
surprisingly impressive. Finally, you can sample the cuisine at Daniel Boulud Brasserie or
Buffet (try the rack of lamb for a true treat!).
2. The
Stratosphere
While the Stratosphere
certainly isn't for everyone, it is perhaps the only place you can dangle 1,149
feet above the ground. The Stratosphere's thrill rides--Insanity, Big
Shot, and X-Scream--are the main draws here. Whether you want to spin, drop,
dip, or simply shriek like a 12-year-old girl, this youthful hotel and casino
has you covered. Personally, we recommend Insanity for the incredible angle you
get to view--almost parallel to the ground.
For those whose
stomachs would prefer a treat rather than a workout, the Stratosphere offers its
Top of the World Restaurant, which is a shocking 800 feet in the air. Stretch
your dinner out to an hour and twenty minutes (this shouldn't be a challenge,
considering the restaurant was named Best Gourmet Room by the Las Vegas
Review-Journal) and you'll be rewarded with the full 360 degree view this
revolving restaurant offers.
